About Texas AAU

The Texas AAU Youth Football and Cheer League (TXAAUYFL) has grown into a premier platform for youth athletes across Texas, offering structured football and cheer for ages 6 to 12. While the league operates under the umbrella of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), one of the largest non-profit youth sports organizations in the U.S., its Texas chapter has built a distinct identity focused on excellence, character development, and community engagement.

Key Highlights of the League’s History

  • Foundation and Growth: The Texas AAU Youth Football and Cheer League has expanded over the years, reaching communities throughout Texas and providing consistent, organized competition for youth programs.

  • Mission and Vision: The league emphasizes building strong athletes through training, sportsmanship, and academic accountability. It aligns with AAU’s broader mission to promote and develop amateur sports and physical fitness programs.

  • Widespread Participation: TXAAUYFL hosts seasonal events, including the fall tackle football and cheer season, with participation from clubs in North, Central, and South Texas. Communities served include Austin, Belton, Copperas Cove, Georgetown, Killeen, Harker Heights, Round Rock, and Waco.

  • Leadership and Organization: The league is led by dedicated administrators, including Benjamin Dallas, Jennifer Cunningham, and Rod “Chico” Tanner, who play a pivotal role in organizing events, managing operations, and fostering partnerships to enhance the league’s impact.

  • Community Impact: Beyond athletics, the league supports initiatives such as military and veterans appreciation, scholarship opportunities, and youth recognition, reflecting a broader commitment to community engagement and youth development.

Important Note on the Name “AAU”

There is another organization with the same initials, the Association of American Universities (AAU). That AAU is an academic group whose mission is to improve human life through education, research, and discovery by supporting America’s leading universities.

Our league is aligned with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), not the academic AAU.
